The shout “Oisa”:
During the Asayama and other events of the Yamakasa the carriers often shout “Oisa! Oisa!”.
“Oisa” is believed to be a shorter version of “Osshoi”, which is used when running at a normal pace and gives rhythm to the steps.
“Oisa” is used when running faster. The shout has no rhythm to it, which means the carriers can run whithout having to concentrate on their step timing.
