Washing of the carrying poles:
Every year in June the districts go to the beach of Hakata to was the carrying poles of the Kakiyama as a part of a cleansing ritual. The days vary from district to district. The water in Hakata bay is very dirty, due to it being close to the port, which is why clean water is often used afterwords. After this the Bars are fixed together and made ready to hold the Kakiyama in a porcess called [Bōjime].
